Summary

I have a fascination to question the medium of photography. I like to try out and develop something different than what we now know as photography. Can 'writing with light' also be presented in a different way? I would like to start from a technical research in order to achieve a new image through experimentation. This ended up working out and I am very satisfied with the results. While I was testing my experiments in remote places in nature, I discovered a certain poetic relation between humans and nature. The light that reflects on the landscape often gives it a completely different context.

I found it a very interesting process to do something with home-made technology and experimentally achieve a certain image. I think I may also be trying to redefine the photographic medium in order to develop a new digital form of photography. Because I literally and figuratively write with light, I try to create a new reality that gives the result a certain cinematic atmosphere.

Introduction

For my masters project I started to question the photographic medium. Throughout the year I have been developing lighting techniques to take photos at night and I try to create new images in an experimental way.

I am interested in introducing man-made objects into the outdoor environment, a luminous figure, a human element that enters into a relationship with nature and contributes to the connection. I feel a certain poetic bloom, coupled with the presence of these regular shapes like a line or a circle. These are like a recurring canvas that symbolizes creation, a blank page, empty space that needs to be filled. It was also important to respect the original physical landscape and to disturb it as little as possible.

I think that photography does not represent reality, but creates it. In my work a certain figure is integrated into the landscape, but paradoxically this gives the image a surrealistic look. These alternative landscapes offer new interpretations of the underlying nature, the traditional form and the given beauty, simplicity or greatness of the landscape.
